Soon you'll be greeted by your new Secretary, Emily Band, but I'll let her decide when and how she's going to do it.
This is my last post as secretary but I wanted to let everyone know about what happened at the AGM. I could write a long post about but instead I'm just going to link the Minutes so you can look at them at your leisure. The only really important thing that happened in the AGM was that the constitution got changed (again). This time adding in a precise handover period between power changes. You can have a look at it here.

Hello everyone, this is just a quick reminder that this saturday is the D&D event, so if you have some spare time on Saturday come along to whoop some magical butt in a climactic story. The schedule has been published here if anyone wants to look at it. The AGM, where the old committee passes over to a new elected committee, is fast approaching. It will be held next Tuesday in the food factory. At an AGM you can raise issues that you've had at the society or ideas you have to improve it, you can also choose to run for a position in the committee if you want to help out the society with your time and enthusiasm.
If you want to speak on the AGM or run for a position you can simply declare you want to do so at the AGM however we're advising members to let the committee know ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly. The e-mail for the society is [email protected] if you have any queries don't hesitate to ask. After the AGM people will be starting campaigns for the year so we encourage everyone to attend that wants to play in a campaign this year. Alternatively if you don want to run a campaign please e-mail the society or notify our RPG convenor, Blair Smith. Hello freshers, this is the GUGS Website where all important documents and information is stored.
Over the next few weeks GUGS will be hosting events to help you discover new games and interests. Here is a rough timetable 16/09/16: DnD themed pub crawl. We will be starting in Curler's Rest and moving through various pubs in the west end. The pubcrawl will have a competitive side to it but its primarily a way for all of us to meet and talk to new people without any pressure. There is an event on facebook if you haven't already seen it. 20/09/16: Freshers Sessions. This Tuesday and the following will have role playing one shots, set up board games and friendly magic games so that anyone can try something they might not have done before and see if they enjoy it with no obligations. Its highly recommended as its fun and more social than you'd think 27/09/16: 2nd Freshers Sessions. Spent all last week roleplaying and didn't have a chance to play a cool board game you saw? that's what this second week is for, getting a chance to do the things you didn't have time for last week. 01/10/16: The Frostbeard Expedition. A large role play event that is free, and new player friendly. We'll be hosting it in West End Games, a cafe that will have just opened up, run by a former member. There is more information on facebook and we'll be releasing more information on the website and with e-mails later on. Thats all for now but we hope you enjoy your first year at Glasgow University. So since Christmas time the site hasn't had much love and I bear full responsibility for that. To make it up to everyone I'm going to renew my efforts to maintain a content filled website and twitter account.
In other new the committee has been having some meetings and up until now the minutes only existed on my laptop. No more! I am uploading so that the committee can have full transparency with the society. On top of that you start to see the GUGS Newsletters again as another way members can stay up to date. Hey guys, things have been busy lately what with the pile on of coursework but now all the minutes are becoming available. You can find them on the Documents Tab on the Ribbon up top. Sorry for the tardiness of their upload but things will be smoother and faster from now on.
This has been a while coming but since the AGM I, Kingsley Baxter, have been in charge of the website and the twitter and this is my formal 'Hello!'. I will keep you up to date with all thats happening with tweets, blog posts and newsletters over the next year so you'll be hearing a lot more from me. See you soon.
Hey all,
So a couple announcements to make. We'll be rolling out a bunch of news covering stuff that will be happening between now and the AGM, most notably Freshers' events. First up: the AGM is going to be held on Tuesday October 7th. This is week three of term, and is the same evening that RPG campaigns will start. We plan to have the AGM last for 60-90 minutes, and RPG character generation to take place immediately afterwards. If you are interested in standing for a position, make yourself heard! We need three UoG students to hold the executive positions, at the very minimum. Do it. It's fun. Secondly, Freshers' Faire is the 14th-18th of September. We'll be doing a stall this year. Please note that the QMU will be CLOSED during this time, so Tuesday GUGS won't be running on the 15th. Freshers' Weeks for GUGS will thus be Tuesday 22nd and 29th. One-Shots are a thing, as per usual; please tell Blair if you can run. Cardgame and wargame events will also be on; look for announcements about those in due course. Finally, there is going to be a twenty-person Dungeons and Dragons event, held on Saturday 26th of September. This is intended to be a multi-party experience, with players interacting with the other groups to help save the day. Speak to Raymond if you are interested in either running or playing! Okay, I think that's me for the moment. Peace. As we begin the run-up to Freshers' Faire and the handing over of the torch, the committee held a meeting to discuss, among other things, the AGM date, our plans for the Freshers' Faire, and the current state of the society. Read the minutes here.
The committee is excited to announce that GUGS is starting a 40k Escalation League from the 7th of February. This means that you start out by assembling and using a 500pt force, and then build it up every month by 250pt installments. This is a great way to get into the hobby relatively cheaply, as you can build up an army at a reasonable pace, and use it in games against other people at the same level.
RULESPACK CAN BE FOUND HERE We took a quick survey of interested players last Saturday, and found that over a half-dozen put their names into the hat, giving us a great number to begin with - but we'd love for more people to take part! If you have always wanted to try 40k, but were daunted by the sheer scale of the game, then come along and take part - we can help you learn the game, practice your painting, and join a hugely enjoyable hobby! We are back for the new year! And to celebrate this, we are launching straight into the festivities with some events for you. This week the university is having their Refreshers week, an opportunity for students to join the societies that they missed out on in semester one. We are having a couple of events to celebrate this, and hope to use the opportunity to gain lotsa new members, as well as kickstart some more wargaming. Saturday - WargamingOn Saturday 17th we will be having a wargaming focused day. We want people of all skills and experiences to come down, try out this fun hobby, and hopefully kickstart a new army. We'll have some demo games on (both Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team), and some tables will be set up to allow people to play with their own armies. Saturday GUGS were traditionally used for wargaming, and we'd like to make this a big thing once more. We will also be discussing our proposed Escalation campaign for 40k, which is where a group of people build up their armies in small bite-sized chunks - 250 points a month, for example - thus spreading the cost and effort required, and ensuring that they have opponents at the same points level. If you'd like to take part in this, make sure to come down and tell us! Tuesday - RoleplayingOn Tuesday 20th we'll have some one-shots ready for anyone that wants to give our wonderful hobby of roleplaying a try. For all those who have been considering taking part, but don't want to commit to something without trying it first, come on down! We will have D&D, Firefly and other games on offer.
